Music Class April 29 - May 3

This week we learned all about rhythm and beat, and the difference between the two concepts.  The children were able to see photos of the continent of Africa, learned the distance in miles from Michigan, identified a variety of animals we might see in Africa and were introduced to an African hand drum called the Djembe.  A video was shown so they could see how the Djembe is played, and the different sounds/pitches that it makes when striking the drums on different areas.  Everyone took a turn playing the Djembe!  We then clapped our hands and used rhythm sticks to keep a steady beat in 4/8 time along with hand motions to the tune of, "I Feel The Rhythm" and "Rain On The Green Grass."  It was a joy to watch the children express their natural rhythmic talent!
