Modes of Transportation
For week three I decided to make our theme Transportation in celebration of Columbus Day! We began singing with our instruments: Rhythm Sticks for the 3's/4's and assorted Shakers for the toddlers/2's. We started by looking at a photo of Christopher Columbus and discussed how we thought he looked like an explorer or a pirate before singing about how he sailed the ocean blue in 1492. We also sang about row boats, trains, and traffic lights! I passed out steering wheels for them to "steer" with while we sang our car songs so we could pretend to turn different ways and drive fast or slow. We enjoyed singing the Fire Truck song again (it's one of our favorites) and the Beep Beep Waltz.
One of our favorite songs this week was the Little Caboose song. It can be a fun and interactive way to have your child pick colors or incorporate the colors in the room you're in/clothing colors. The lyrics are:
"Little red caboose. Chug chug chug.
Little red caboose. Chug chug chug.
Little red caboose behind the train, the train.
Smoke stacks on it's back WHOO WHOO!
Coming down the track WHOO WHOO!
Little red caboose behind the train, the train."
I would love to hear about you singing this at home with your kiddos as they enjoy it so much during music class!
