All About The Flamenco!

The students really enjoyed learning about flamenco music and dance today. We watched several videos of dancing (shown below) and also enjoyed using castanets to make music, practice rhythms, and to act out songs such as "Five Little Monkeys" (the castanet was the snapping alligator!). We also tried snapping our castanets to "B-I-N-G-O".

FACTS WE LEARNED ABOUT THE FLAMENCO:

It has its origins in Spain.

It is very important culturally.

Flamenco dancers dance with many objects like castanets, finger cymbals or tambourines.

Female flamenco dancers are called Bailaora, and male dancers are called Bailaor.

This derives from the spanish word for dance, bailar.
