SUNSHINE ON MY SHOULDER!

It was a fun, "sunshine-y" day in music class as we explored the wonderfully illustrated book, "Sunshine On My Shoulders" written and illustrated by Christopher Canyon. It is a visual depiction, of course, of the famous song by John Denver! The books were a gift to me and my son from my mother, who happens to be a musician and also, a very big John Denver fan! :) Along with the illustrations and text, I played the children "Sunshine On My Shoulders" as we read. They enjoyed the visuals and discussing our favorite parts about sunshine.

We also sang "Mr. Sun", "The Lord Is Good To Me", "You are My Sunshine" and played games with the sun. Well, it was really a yellow rubber ball--but we had fun rolling it to one another, and older children also enjoyed playing "Sunshine Tag", where the tagger of the game held on to the ball and tagged others who would then sit down.

Please enjoy streaming this mp3 of John Denver's "Sunshine On My Shoulder"!

Ask your child about the animals they saw in the book today! (Several animals made an appearance on almost every page--the cat, the mouse, and a bird, to name a few).
