As the holidays rolled around we got so busy at Joyful Noise that music classes were sort of scattered and not the same as their usual times, etc. So, enjoy this combination post from the weeks of November 18th and November 25th!
We Are Thankful!
For the week of the 18th, we celebrated Thanksgiving in music class! We started off by discussing what thanksgiving was, and some things that we might be thankful for. We then spent our time together singing about how we're thankful for God, our families and everything we have. We all got to pick from a wide variety of shakers to use and we tried to sing to the beat with them. It was also fun to give our turkey some feathers with the Turkey Feather song where we worked on our color words and recognition! To finish off class we ended with the book "I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie!". This book is fun to read because it takes on a rolling rhythm that can be sped up and up as you sing once you're comfortable with the words! The kids always enjoy this one.

Animals!
The week of the 22nd our focus was on animals. The classrooms are starting to incorporate Zoophonics into their lessons and I thought it would be a fun way to make a little connection. We revisited some of our current favorites like "Slippery Fish", "Five Little Fishies" and Raffi's version of "Five Little Ducks". Counting was incorporated with "Baa Baa Black Sheep" as well as "One, Two, Zoo!" which uses rhyming words.
One of their favorites this week was "A Silly Slippery Snake". It's a very simple song that can be made even more fun by adding body movements, hand/finger actions, or puppets! It is sung to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it." and goes as follows:

Oh, I'd slither across the floor,
and I'd slip under the door!
