I AM A PIZZA!
_______________

This week in music class we sang one of our old favorites--"I am a Pizza"! This fun echo song has always been very entertaining for the children. It is about the making of a pizza--from start to finish, and its ultimately sad demise of falling upside down and onto the floor during delivery (a very sad scene, indeed)!

We used felt circles for dough and sauce and laminated topping pieces today as we sang the song, which is a repeating tune. (The children repeat after the leading singer).  Besides conjuring up many giggles during the melodramatic ending, kids learn a lot about repeating rhythm, pitch and vocabulary during this activity, and today they also followed directions, sorted and counted!

We also "sang" Dr. Seuss's book, "My Many Colored Days" today, and younger children pointed out animal sounds as we went, while older ones compared and pondered over the tune I sang the book to, and made estimations at the end. (I sang the book to the familiar tune of "ABC's" and "Twinkle Twinkle").

Check out the lyrics and a downloadable lyric sheet along with an mp3 of the two's class singing "I am a Pizza" today! Try it at home with your child. Feeling clever or creative? Try substituting your favorite toppings, drawing your favorite pizza on paper or even creating an alternate ending for this fun tune!

I am a Pizza
As you sing each line, children repeat after you:

I am a Pizza
With extra cheese
From tomatoes
Sauce is squeezed
Onions and mushrooms
Oregano

I am a pizza
Ready to go

I am a pizza
Pepperoni
No anchovies
Or phony bologna
I am a pizza
Ordered by phone

I am a pizza
Please take me home

I am a pizza
Peppers on the top
Out of the oven
And into the box
Into the car
UPSIDE DOWN!

I am a pizza
Dropped on the ground

(with sad voice)
I was a pizza
I was the best
I was a pizza
Now I’m a mess
