All About the Flute!
Students enjoyed checking out the flute, a wonderful woodwind instrument, this week in music class!
We observed the different parts of the flute (mainly the head joint, body or middle joint and foot joint) and observed how air is blown in to the embouchure to create music.
I played for the children, showing them low and high pitches, trills, and some fun techniques and melodies on the flute. We even played a game where we crouched for low tones and jumped for high tones! (See below).
The children also enjoyed passing the flute around the circle and pressing its keys and observing its inner workings! They also had many giggles playing "Two Little Monkeys" with an alligator puppet and our lollipop drum.

Questions to Ask Your Child
1) How many pieces did the flute have? Three--a head joint, body, and foot joint.
2) Did you move your body to high notes and low notes? How? We jumped for high notes and crouched for low notes!
3) Did you wear a monkey puppet on your finger in music class? What happened to the monkey when the alligator puppet came around?
