BOOM! GOES THE THUNDER DRUM!
What do we think--has spring sprung? Today in music class, we looked out the window to observe the weather, and talked a bit about rain, and thunderstorms! We used our bodies (fingers, hands and feet) to create a rainstorm that started with gentle pitter-patters and then graduated into heavy rain and thunder, with the special added touch of the THUNDER DRUM!
The thunder drum is a small cylinder with a drum head on the bottom. Drilled through and glued to the drum head is a thin metal coil about 2 1/2 foot long! By hanging on to the thunder drum and shaking it, or making the coil whip around, an awesome very thunder-like vibration is created.
Each child took a turn at bringing the thunder and everyone loved it!! We also sang additional rain songs and did some body movement as well.
BRING ON THAT SPRING WEATHER! 😁
QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR CHILD
