Grandma's Feather Bed!

We had such a great time listening to this book and singing the verses today! The original song by John Denver is represented in this wonderfully illustrated book and CD by Christopher Canyon. As a fun additional activity, we recited the funny poem "Grandma's Glasses" which explores differences between high and low pitches. The kids thought that was hilarious--especially the toddlers! (See the video below). It is an old favorite!

We also jumped up and down on "Grandma's Feather Bed" (which was really a stacked gym mat) and had some wonderful conversations about grandparents, and cherished memories of spending time with them. I told the children about my great Grandmother Fran, who gave me a black velvet bag with a silver dollar inside it when I was four years old. They did ask if she was still alive--and I said no. That prompted a few comments about death, and loss, and we moved on from there in to new memories and fun times with our grandparents. The kids told me things like, "I got to eat breakfast on the couch at grandma's!!" and "My grandpa plays baseball with me!"

Overall it was a great week in music class. See the extender questions below to keep the conversation going!

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR CHILD
