FIVE GREEN AND SPECKLED FROGS!
This week in music class, we sang about those wonderfully slimy, high-hoppin', bug-catchin' creatures--frogs! Like most of our music classes, we started by discussing what we know about frogs. I told students about a recent time when I was watering herbs in my garden, only to find a Michigan Northern Leopard frog "chilling out" in an abandoned pot, soaking up the extra drops of water from my garden hose!
With some fun frog cut-outs, a frog puppet and lots of imagination, we practiced counting and waiting our turn to "hop in to the pond" as we sang the familiar nursery rhyme, "Five Green And Speckled Frogs".
Our schoolagers also used the slidewhistles while singing the song, moving their slidewhistle down and up for the frog "jumping in to the pool". We also played a fun lily pad jumping game, and measured how big our standing "frog hops" were. Luke from the school age group was the winner of our contest today with his impressive distance! At a close second was Emmett, and third place went to Finn. All of the students enjoyed giving it their best shot and challenging themselves to beat their own record. See if you can find your school age child's white tape mark on the rec room carpet today!
The infants enjoyed a few new movement songs as well. See the lyrics below and give them a try! Also see the extender questions below so that you can keep the musical conversation going at home.
Lastly, my aplogies for our absence of music last week! I had a very sick little one at home. We are feeling much better now!

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR CHILD
1) If there are three frogs on a log, and one jumps off, how many are left? Hmmmm...if you don't know the answer, maybe using some objects to count will help!
2) Can you show me how a frog hops?
