TRUMPET!

We had a blast today learning about the trumpet! A few of us adults gave it a try and the children really enjoyed passing around the trumpet and learning about its valves, bell, and mouthpeice. We learned that this instrument is a BRASS instrument, and it uses air to make sound. We even saw the "spit valves" where extra spit is released from the instrument!

The kids also enjoyed looking at pictures of Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Armstrong, and we watched a video performance of a song they played together (posted below). Make sure to ask your child about the trumpet today and check your 2 year old and up cubby/mailbox for a coloring page that went home!

Dizzy's infamous cheeks--check out the students below trying to emulate them! =)

Check out the rhythm we are working on with our songflutes in the school age class!

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR CHILD

1. Is the trumpet a brass instrument or a woodwind instrument? It's a brass!

2. How do you make sound with a trumpet? Blow air into it!

1. Can you show me what Dizzy Gillespie could do with his cheeks ? Puff them up with air!
