Ireland and Celtic Music!

We had so much fun listening to Irish music, learning to dance a jig, and also laughing at an old Irish birthday tradition for children this morning! Let's start with the offbeat ritual that is performed in Ireland for children that involves holding them upside down and gently "bumping" their head to the ground--once for each year of their age! The kids got a real hoot out of this and in each class, I took a few volunteers whose birthdays were the most recent.

Much laughter ensued!

The infants always love to touch the guitar whenever they get a chance. Today in infant and toddler music class, I sang "Micheal Finnegan", "Too Ra loo Ra loo Ra" (two traditional Irish nursery rhymes) and also peekaboo songs, along with Hickory Dickory Dock! Check out the video from toddler class on how to do this simple action song with your child that is great for beginning counting:

The kids learned an Irish Jig dance move!
