DIEZ AMIGOS AND MORE!!

Do you know how to count in Spanish? This week, we learned a fun song with 3 and 4-year-olds called "Diez Amigos" that counted friends 1-10! Of course, we had more friends than that, so we had fun continuing on (both classes had 13 kiddos, if your child can remember!) and it was a big hit to sing on the lollipop drum pictured below.

Students also got to try the drum, and we exercised with a few fun favorites (Washing Machine and Walking Feet songs.) We also continued our guiro practice! The kids are really getting great at playing them.

Guatemalan Folklore:

Mayan Worry Dolls (and songs in Spanish!)

This week in music we learned all about Guatemala, a Spanish speaking country in Central America with a rich cultural heritage of Mayan tradition as well as Latin-American influence!

We looked at pictures of Guatemalan geography, including volcanoes and Mayan temples, as well as people in indigenous dress, and pictures of hand-made worry dolls! The small worry dolls are typically made by weaving threads into traditional Guatemalan dress. The person who is feeling worry tells all of their anxieties to the doll, and then sleeps with it underneath their pillow. The next morning, the worries are gone!
