Rainbow Rhythms and Weather Tales!
Today in music class we had so much fun dancing with multicolored ribbons, singing and telling a fun movement story about the spring weather! You could easily reenact this story at home with a homemade ribbon ring or just a long bit of fabric such as a bathrobe belt! Here it is:
Once upon a time, there was a rainstorm. It started quietly (gently twirling ribbon.) Then, the wind picked up and started to make waves at the beach (using the ribbon to create wave-like motions.) It started raining even harder! (More vigorous ribbon shaking.) Even the snake tried to hide under a rock! (Using the ribbon in an "s" formation on the ground.)
The weather watchers or meteorologists went up into a helicopter in the sky to watch the weather (helicopter motion with ribbon.) They saw a tornado! (Funnel motion.) The rain came down even HARDER and then suddenly...STOPPED!
Out came sun and finally, a beautiful rainbow! (Arc-like motion with ribbon.)
The kids had so much fun doing this and asked to do it several times in a row! We also talked about performing movements with our "non-dominant" hands, and learned that it made movements more tricky!
