RESONATOR BARS!
We're back! Music class is back at it after an extended holiday break and we had a ton of fun today talking about resonator bars! The kiddos thought they were super cool because they LOOK like a xylophone, yet come apart! This gave us an opportunity to talk about the following topics:
Colors! Primary colors as well as turquoise and teal! Numbers! There are 8 resonator bars for a full diatonic c-scale. We practiced counting them forward and backward as well. Letters! Did you know that the musical alphabet doesn't go past the letter "G"? We worked on saying the musical alphabet in class today and also learned that our c scale begins and ends with c. Pairs! I showed the children what harmonies sound like with pairs of notes using two bars at a time, and sang a few songs that way. We also discussed what else comes in pairs and they came up with some pretty neat responses: eyeballs, hands, shoes, socks, mittens, binoculars, headphones and pants, among other things!
