WRENCH XYLOPHONE!

This week in music class, we took a look at different types of xylophones and how they make music--from those of metal construction, to wood! The kids enjoyed hearing the different tones and discussing vibration as related to the instrument, but they especially loved the makeshift instrument we made out of Mr. Dan's tools...

The wrench xylophone!!

Check out the pictures and video below to see and hear this super neat instrument that we made out of different size wrenches, and wooden xylophone frame. When used with mallets, the wrenches vibrate and make a lovely glockenspiel-like sound!

We also got warmed up for Christmas by singing a few tunes, and played peek-a-boo games. Don't foreget to ask your child the questions below to extend the musical conversation at home!

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR CHILD:

1) What instrument did you play in music class this week? A saxophone? A telephone? A XYLOPHONE!

2) What tool did you use to create a different kind of xylophone? WRENCHES!
