VROOM VROOM!

This week in music class, we enjoyed singing songs about cars and transportation! We read a few books (Down By The Station by Jess Stockholm and The Wheels on the Bus by Raffi) and sang a fun song called "Grandma's Got A Little _____ Car!"
The song, sang to the tune of "Chopsticks", uses color cues to describe what kind of car grandma has. Younger children enjoyed calling out the colors as I held them up (I used my color "doughnut" circles), and we had fun pretending they were steering wheels after singing the song.
Speaking of that, we had a blast pretending a small paper plate was our very own steering wheel! Some of our children had time to decorate their wheel with crayons and everyone got to take the plate home. Don't be surprised if you see your little one pretending to drive home with it! =)
One of the songs we sang with our pretend steering wheel was "Driving in my car" (set to the tune of "The Farmer In The Dell").

DRIVING IN MY CAR

I'm driving in my car
I'm driving in my car
BEEP-BEEP-HONK-HONK
I'm driving in my car!

Additional verses:

I'm turning to the left (pretend to steer left)
I'm turning to the right (pretend to steer right)
I'm driving very fast (steer quickly)
I'm going in reverse (look behind you)
I'm down a bumpy road (bump up and down)

We also had a great time playing "follow the leader" in the rec room (stopping at red lights, using our blinkers, etc) with the paper plates.

Check out the video below for the four year olds playing a game with the song "A Smooth Road". Thanks for sharing your children with me--see you next week! =)
